Privacy, in plain words.
LeftStart exists to tutor kids, not to monetize them. Here is exactly what we collect, why, and what we will never do.
What we collect
- • Your account: a parent's (or adult learner's) email and password.
- • Learner profiles: first name, grade, an emoji avatar, and an optional 4-digit PIN. No birthdays, no last names, no photos of people.
- • Homework photos you choose to snap, and the practice data they generate: quizzes, answers, per-skill mastery, streaks, XP.
- • If you paste a job posting, its text — used only to build your practice plan.
- • If you leave your email on the donate page, that email, used only for LeftStart updates.
How the AI part works
Homework photos, quiz answers, and tutor questions are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to be read, graded, and explained. Under the API terms we use, that data is not used to train AI models. The voice tutor's speech recognition runs in your browser — no audio is ever uploaded.
What we never do
- • No ads, and no ad trackers — we don't run third-party analytics or marketing pixels.
- • No selling or sharing data. Not to brokers, not to “partners.” Kids are not a product.
- • No public kid profiles. A learner's data is visible only inside their own family's account.
- • Cookies are used only to keep you signed in.
Deleting your data
Self-serve, in the app: the parent dashboard can delete any single profile (with its photos and practice history) or the entire account — everything, immediately, no email required. Prefer a human? Write hello@leftstart.org from your account email and we'll do it for you.
Who we are
LeftStart is run by LeftStart LLC (Missouri, USA), built by a parent, funded by donations, and free for every family. Questions about anything on this page: hello@leftstart.org.
